Japan Hosts a Summit on Nutrition for Growth

PHNOM PENH: The Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, High Representative of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Yim Chhay Ly has made an statement on Tuesday, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia at the Summit on Nutrition for Growth in Tokyo, Japan.

Cambodia is committed to ending all forms of malnutrition by 2030 for peace, stability, human capital development and economic growth. Cambodia is proud of the progress it made and is committed to transforming the food system by providing an equitable, healthy diet, empowering women, youth, vulnerable and indigenous peoples, protecting and promoting them. Restoring ecosystems at the same time developing better resilience and more environmentally friendly food management.

The Kingdom’s commitment is supported by strong national strategies and policies, coupled with detailed plans focusing on interventions for the first 1,000 days of life, promoting breastfeeding, and promoting nutrition. In addition to the prevention and treatment of thin and stunted children and school feeding to address nutrition issues, strong commitment to health and education is complemented by activities in agriculture, water and sanitation and social protection system. The Multidisciplinary and Multilateral Approach is a core mechanism to assist the Royal Government of Cambodia in ending malnutrition, reducing intergenerational impacts, and enabling the next generation to reach their full potential.

Cambodia will continue to work with development partners and countries to organize an environmental policy dialogue on nutrition. As chair of ASEAN in 2022, and will continue to work with countries in the region and beyond to achieve better nutrition outcomes, calling for the support of the international community to address the common challenges.
